With the move from regular 4:3 screen ratios to 16:10 widescreen displays is almost complete it seems another shift is about to take shape. Following on from Asus' 16:9 laptops is the first 22in (21.5in to be exact) 16:9 ratio desktop monitor.


The BenQ 'E2200HD' and 'E2200HDA' (we're not sure what the 'A' signifies as yet) join the Taiwanese company's E Series line and pack a movie perfect 1920 x 1080 (1080p) native resolution making them map pixel-for-pixel with the highest quality HD recordings. Keeping their end up too are the contrast ratios with a massive 10,000:1 figure quoted while the 5ms response times (2ms grey-to-grey) and 300 nits brightness are fairly standard.

BenQ hasn't detailed all the connectivity options yet but they should follow the company's penchant for HDMI and DVI ports while discrete integrated stereo speakers of an unknown wattage are also in there.

A 'summer' release time frame has been put on the E2200HD and E2200HDA so obviously prices at this stage are unknown. As for the future, this monitor may be the first mainstream 16:9er to be unveiled but don't expect it to be the last...

16:9 is for movies, and for console playback (via HDMI in this case). So instead of 1920x1200 like all the 24" monitors are, they've trimmed 60 pixels off the top and bot... more

i dont see black bar as a problem when im watching movie. saying 16:0 better than 16:9 is silly. why should pc monitor should be standardized to be the same as general consumer dis... more
