Samsung really is beginning to blaze a trail when it comes to LCD design...

Following the stunning T range Andy reported on at CeBIT, the Korean giant has already produced another line of beauties with the '53 Series'.

Once again blurring the line between the desktop and the TV stand, Samsung refers to the 53 series as 'LCD TVs' and with monstrous 8,000:1 contrast ratios, 2ms gray-to-gray response times and support for HDCP encryption I'll admit this is a boundary which is starting to blur. That said, unless you're a fan of tiny sets the 53 series sizes of 19-22 inches place them firmly next to your PC in my mind while the lack of an HDMI port should be Case Closed Your Honour.

Interestingly, Samsung has thrown an 'adaptive size algorithm' into the 53s which it claims will enable them to recognise 4:3 input and eliminate stretching as well as make them more friendly to non-native resolutions. For the record these are 1440 x 900 for the 19in '953BW' and 1680 x 1050 for the 20in '2053BW' (above) and 22in '2253LW'.

Samsung hasn't put a release date on the line, but with very reasonable RRPs announced at $239, $299 and $349 respectively it suggests we should be able to snap them in up a few weeks.
