While arguably lacking an OS to fully exploit it (though that could soon change), touchscreen LCDs have an undoubted appeal, potentially simplifying software interfaces and making users feel more connected to their devices (I've been spending too much time with my iPhone, ok). Here's where Iiyama comes in...

The display specialist has today launched its new range of 15in, 17in and 19in touchscreen panels based on the latest 5 Wire Resistive technology and some swanky new styling. Furthermore, while touchscreen monitors in the past have tended to be rather crippled beasts, the ProLite T1530SR, T1730SR and T1930SR are fully formed with all managing reasonable 800:1 contrast ratios and size proportionate native resolutions of 1024 x 768 (15in) and 1280 x 1024 (17in and 19in).

As for connectivity, display inputs include both analogue and digital (DVI) options with touchscreen connectivity via either USB or RS-232 which adds a good deal of flexibility. The trio can also be rotated 90 degrees to work in portrait mode.

Sadly, if there is a second element holding back touchscreen desktop technology (besides the killer OS) it is pricing and, despite falling, the 15in T1530SR alone comes in at a hefty £329. So while graphic artists may be signing up in droves it looks like the rest of us will have to wait a little longer to act out our best Minority Report impressions.
