Samsung is never one to pass up a World's First... opportunity, even if it has to come up with something pretty odd to get it...

Other than the raft of TVs the company is lauding at this year's IFA, Samsung is parading the SyncMaster '220TN' and '225UW' - two 22in LCD monitors with VoIP functionality!?!

In the case of the 220TN (right) this is because it features an Ethernet port which enables it to go online even without a PC meaning the integrated 2MP webcam, mic and speaker can be operated independently using the software the monitor comes with. Craziness.

As for the 225UW (left), it is much the same however it is also optimized for Microsoft UC (Unified Communication) for total personal ID management. As a result, the 225UW can store user data and even work with third party programmes like MS Live Messenger and Skype - all without a PC. Even crazier.

Still not making any sense? I suspect so, because how would any of this run? Well, that's wackiest part yet because both models have an embedded version of Windows XP installed inside them and are fuelled by a 500MHz Geode LX800 processor. Great, now you have two MS operating system's to crash, not just one. Totally and utterly crackers!

Bringing back some level of normality to this odd pair however are their 1,680 x 1,050 native resolutions, 5ms response times, USB hubs, piano black finishes and Sammy's penchant for touch sensitive bezel buttons.

Likely to be a hit with frequent VoIP users or those simply too lazy to press the power button on their PC, the 220TN and 225UW will appear at some point in Q4. Pricing however remains as aloof as the logic behind their inventor.
