Just last week LG announced its first 24in LCD and three days latest NEC is showing its love for the display sector's hottest form factor.

The catchily named 'LCD2470WNX' is its attempt to muscle in on the likes of BenQ, Dell, LG, Samsung and (probably not) Acer and on the surface it seems to tick all the right boxes.

The native resolution is a 1080p compatible par-for-the-course 1,920 x 1,200 pixels, the contrast ratio is a perfectly respectable 1000:1 and the brightness matches its competitors at 500cd/m2. Where NEC does make some headway however is the 6ms response time which is 2ms quicker than LG's L245WP but identical to Acer's AL2416WS, BenQ's FP241W, Dell's 2407WFP and Samsung's SyncMaster 244T.

On the connectivity front NEC serves up DVI with HDCP support and dual VGA along with an integrated USB hub, but HDMI isn't on the menu. Also, as you may have spotted(!), the screen can be swivelled to work in a portrait alignment.

Available in either black (LCD2470WNX-BK) or white (LCD2470WNX), this 24 incher talks the talk and looks like it should walk the walk ($819.99) so providing NEC hasn't placed any banana skins round the corner – UK pricing and availability haven't been revealed – this should be yet another a worthy contender.
