We knew we wouldn’t have to wait long for Dell to muscle in…

Following 22in entries from Lenovo, Iiyama, Mirai, Viewsonic and Samsung in recent months it was only a matter of time before Mike and his mechanics (*sorry*) stomped into this new de rigeur size.

What we get is the ‘E228WFP’ which apart from its new and funky panel size sports a 1680 x 1050 native resolution (I still long for 1920 x 1200 at this level), 800:1 contrast ratio and 300 cd/m2 brightness. At 160 degrees I’ve seen wider viewing angles but it still puzzles me why anyone would want to look at a screen from more than 120 degrees so it shouldn’t bother you unless you happen to have particularly odd viewing habits.

A 5ms response time helps keep the E228WFP up with the Joneses and, importantly, it has an HDCP port to support the playback of high definition copy protected discs. Yes, the influence of Vista’s arrival – even if currently only to the corporate (and pirate) world – is already beginning to show.

The E228WFP will ship with a US RRP of $560 and we hope this will translate rather more reasonably to the UK than the E207WFP did ($289 verses £262!) since… err, I’d quite like to buy one!
