ViewSonic Makes First iPod Integrating Monitor

There are two obvious reactions when presented with this new monitor from ViewSonic: “Wow!” and “Why?”


The new ‘ViewDock’ series from ViewSonic is the first – that I know of – LCD screen to integrate an iPod dock. ‘Wow!” I hear you say, and “Why?” Told you so!

This unlikely union is simultaneously practical and impractical since the series can 1. charge your iPod while you work but 2. only charges only when the PC is switched on. Likewise you can 1. view video from your iPod on a ViewDock screen but 2. do you really want such low res content stretched to 20+ inches?

Still there are multiple connectivity options such as several USB2.0 ports, an 8-in-1 card reader, mic and integrated stereo speakers with that all important subwoofer. Unfortunately other vital specs such as native resolutions, screen sizes, availability and – notably – price were all missing.

Only if a ViewDock works out as better value than a similarly specified LCD plus the cost of separate cables to perform the same job Mel…
