Are you rich? Do you want a 1080p screen you can resize at will? Marantz’ stunning new DLP projector looks the way to go… you lucky so and so.

The one happy VP-11S1 is one of the first models I have seen to sport a full 1080p High Definition resolution and it is backed up with specs that say all the right things: 6:500:1 contrast ratio, Konica Minolta lens, dual HDMI, dual component and VGA, S-video and composite video inputs. One area cinephiles may pick holes with is slightly low 700 ANSI lumens rating but it should be sharp enough for all but bright daylight viewing.

Moving from the inside to the outside the form factor isn’t as hefty as might be expected at 481 x 405 x 158mm though you’ll need a strong mounting bracket to support its 13 kilograms. Of course, you won’t mind splashing out for a heavyweight bracket if you can afford the $15,000 price tag.

Now I’m sure the VP-11S1 will get discounted a few grand online when it arrives early next month but arguably the most important thing is such models are starting to hit the high street. And by ‘arguably most important’ I mean prices can start dropping and by ‘start dropping’ I mean drop a lot and by ‘drop a lot’ I mean just $13,000 to go and I’ll have one in my living room. Oh yes - rubs hands - the time is getting close…
