But let’s be honest, the majority of SLI users out there are high-end gamers, and when you throw gaming into the equation, the TripleHead2Go is just awesome. When Matrox brought the TripleHead2Go into the TrustedReviews lab, along with three matched Eizo monitors, the first thing we did was hook it up to a Mesh PC equipped with an AMD FX-60 CPU and twin nVidia 7800 GT graphics cards in SLI.

Firing up both Half-Life 2 Lost Coast and Counter-Strike: Source had the whole office awestruck. The Source engine allows you to specify the maximum resolution that the TripleHead2Go will allow – 3,840 x 1,024! The result is a field of view that’s pretty close to reality – you can see so much around you that you find yourself fully immersed in the game environment like never before.

Obviously you’re going to need a very beefy system to run your games at this kind of resolution, but if you’ve got the hardware it’s very tempting to fork out for three 17in TFT screens and a TripleHead2Go. In fact Benny was so impressed by the TripleHead2Go that he’s actually considering going for three 17in screens instead of the 24in Dell monitor that he’s been lusting after for months.

With an estimated price of £175 excluding VAT, the TripleHead2Go costs a fair bit more than the DualHead2Go, but it also offers a lot more functionality. The TripleHead2Go that we looked at today was an early sample, but we should have a full production version in the lab very soon, so make sure you check back for the full review.
