The way my mind works there is no such thing as a display that is too big and this is a particularly good thing since LG has just put a 55in LCD into mass production.

The M5500C is surely going to be the ultimate playboy’s accessory next year (apart from that shiny new ceiling mirror) and it is easy to see why with a true 1080P Progressive Scan from its 1,920 x 1,080 native resolution.

It hits the right buttons in other areas too, with a 550:1 contrast ratio and surprisingly fast 10ms response time (one feature that traditionally drops off badly on larger screens). There’s DVI and HDCP connectors as well as S-Video and composite inputs and a wide 176 degree viewing angle so your whole county should be able to watch the monitor at the same time as you. Furthermore, the M5500C is wall mountable, though I advise you pick a particularly thick standing wall.

LG doesn’t provide a precise release date for this beast, but the price has been revealed as a jaw dropping (but not quite as jaw dropping as it could have been) £7,490 including VAT. Consequently, you should expect to see it is the nation’s shops (at least those with particularly big doorways) from Jan/Feb.

I feel fairly confident in saying Harrod’s will probably receive stock…
