Toshiba’s new flagship home cinema projector was on display – the MT700. I reviewed the MT500 a while back and was very impressed, but the MT700 looks like it’s a major improvement.

With a native 16:9 HD2+ DLP chip pumping out a resolution of 1,280 x 720, the MT700 is ideal for 720p high definition output. Of course there’s HDMI compatibility for the best possible connection to your video source, while the 2,500:1 contrast ratio and six segment colour wheel ensure superb image quality, no matter what type of scene you’re watching. If you’ve got a large enough room, you can squeeze a 315in image out of this baby.

There were also two new hybrid projectors for video and data use. The S25 and T40 are aimed at the home/SME market, where a projector is needed for presentation duties, but can also be used for leisure at the weekends.

Both devices have 4:3 aspect ratio panels, but whereas the S25 sports a native resolution of 800 x 600, the T40 can manage 1,024 x 768. Both projectors have two RGB inputs, along with composite and S-Video connections – there’s no component video or HDMI inputs, but these are value proposition products.

Toshiba also highlighted its new public display projector – the S80. The S80 is ideal for busy public environments and even carries a “pub warranty” – basically, the projector workings are sealed against smoke ingress, which is a major cause for projector failure in pubs.
