Toshiba was also pushing the boat out when it came to LCD flat panel TVs, extending the current WL48 range with the new WL56 range. There will be three models in the WL56 range – the 27WL56, 32WL56 and 37WL56 – coming in at 27in, 32in and 37in.

The entry level 27WL56 will have no floor stand, while there will be an optional stand for the 32WL56. The top of the range 37WL56 will come with a bundled floor stand as part of the purchase package.

All three screens will run a native 1,366 x 768 resolution, providing a 16:9 aspect ratio. There’s an impressive 800:1 contrast ratio, one HDMI port, two SCART sockets and a composite video input.

However, the WL56 range will not be able to carry the “HD Ready” label, as these sets don’t have component video input – a prerequisite of the label. Of course they are completely HD compatible via the HDMI interface, which will no doubt be the connection method of choice for the majority of users.

But for anyone that wants that “HD Ready” label, Toshiba also announced the WLT58 series. This range sports an identical 1,366 x 768 resolution to the WL56 series, but all three models will have two HDMI ports, three SCART sockets and one set of component video connectors.

The range is made up by the 32WLT58, 37WLT58 and 42WLT58 – obviously this equates to 32in, 37in and 42in models. All the WLT58 screens have an integrated Onkyo speaker system, while the 37in and 42in models will come with a bundled floor stand – the stand is an option on the 32in.
