Toshiba's Latest Projector is Armed

Not content with releasing new consumer level projectors, Toshiba is also expanding its range of business-focused projectors with the S80. The stand-out feature is a high brightness rating of 2000 ANSI Lumens combined with a contrast ratio of 2000:1. This ensures that it is effective even in large and well-lit rooms, which is important in the SME and education markets it is being targeted at. The resolution is only SVGA (800 x 600), but that’s still fine for a good session of death by PowerPoint.

The S80 weighs in at a relatively light 2.8Kg, helped by the fact that is based on less bulky DLP technology. DLP is generally strong on colour reproduction but image quality should be given a further boost by Toshiba’s Natural Colour Enhancement (NCE) system.

Usability is aided by a remote control, and the range of connectivity options include RGB, composite, S-Video and Component over D-Sub. There native image is 4:3 but there’s also a 16:9 option for watching DVDs.

Also available is the S81 model featuring a removable camera arm. This is attached to the projector by a wire. The camera allows small objects to be captured from any angle and projected onto the screen. This application is a valuable tool for business environments, schools and universities.
