Epson, has announced a new multimedia storage viewer called the Photo Fine P-2000. The name actually short changes the device somewhat as not only can users store and view digital photos, it also enables users to store and view movies. The P-2000 has a 3.8in VGA Photo Fine display, which Epson claims will give higher definition than competitor models at 212 pixels per inch (ppi). It also sports a 40GB hard disk drive with slots for compact flash and SD memory cards.

Movie formats supported are Motion JPEG and MPEG4, at 30 frames per second. It can also acts as a music player supporting MP3 and unusually AAC. It will display JPEGs and RAW files from Nikon and Canon.

Battery life is claimed to be up to three hours, which should just get you through a movie and a bit of photo browsing.

The player uses a USB 2.0 connection and can be used as a portable file storage unit.
There’s also an AV out so you can connect it to a TV.

The P-2000 will launch in November 2004 for an RRP of £349.

Epson has also announced a new five megapixel camera with a three times optical zoom. It also features a movie mode that can take VGA resolution footage at 30 frames per second.

As with the P-2000 the camera also uses a Photo Fine Viewer LCD display to give 256 pixels per inch so that pictures taken can be browsed easily on the 2.5in .USB direct print is also supported.

The L-500V will launch in November 2004 for an RRP of £279.
