There are some decent shots this month, but at the risk of a sweeping generalisation, they aren't as high a standard as previous months.
The winner lacked a bit of depth for me, possibly due to the breaking wave not having much texture. But that is harsh - kudos for making the effort to get such a shot (and he certainly paid for it by the sounds of things!).

great work everyone.
@Cliff. Any chance of a "click to view larger" option for the top three?
..as you say yourself this month, it would be nice to see them in more detail sometimes.
Wouldn't even big to be especially high res just an average full screen would do...

Dark of Day - That's a nice idea, however one problem would be the possibility of people stealing large versions of our contestants' photos, unless we could do it in some way that disables "right-click-save-as". Rich, can we do that?

Even if you could block "right-click-save-as", somebody could still use Prt Screen.

What about a photo album where we could take a look at the all the other entries? It is very easy to generate one with Aperture (and other softwares) with Simpleviewer, pictures can be protected too. Example on my website: www.mkuhlmann.net

@Cliff: In my experience it would be quite difficult to put anything programmatic in place to stop people grabbing the images - determined people may resort to View Source and get the direct link that way... or even just look for the image in their cache?
A potential alternative idea - maybe you could contact the people in the top three and ask them to send you a larger, watermarked version if they want theirs viewable larger?
Anyway - enjoyed the entries this month, certainly can't disagree with the top three - love that lightning shot in particular, and thanks for picking mine to be in the showcase!

Thanks to Cliff and the sponsors - I was delighted to be even recognised let alone be one of the winners.
The lighthouse - yeah, obvious...but not so obvious that we had a lot of them. Looking at recent competitions and th standard in this one I was equally surprised. If it's within the rules of the site the larger file can be seen here so that the texture might be seen closer:

Thanks again.

Congrats to the winners. All deserved in my book.
Glad you enjoyed my 'Gravity' pic, Cliff (and thanks for featuring it). I thought you might be inundated with storms, waterfalls and the like so thought i'd offer something to lighten it up a bit ;-)

Has anybody received their camera prize from this months or last months (July) competetion?
Paul Cook said on 16th September 2009
No, i'm still waiting on the Panasonic/Sandisk prizes from last month's 'Looking Up' comp

I'm still waiting on this months prize (August). I thought it might been because of a postal strike or MIA but seemingly it's a common problem if you were to believe comments on the current competition info.

I received the card & the reader last week and the camera arrived this morning. Many thanks for the prize - it has arrived and that is the main thing.

The photos are of course great, but... Some of them I'd rather call just beautiful nature shots rather than the power of anything. Also, the winner photo, the lighthouse--it was the first thing I'd thought when I read the theme. A bit too obvious for the first place, wouldn't you say?
