As photo sharing sites have become more popular, some of the digital camera manufacturers have tried to jump on the bandwagon. One of the first to offer a photo sharing service was Kodak, with its EasyShare software supplied with all of its digital cameras, and also now supplied with Nikon consumer cameras as well.

This service allows users to upload pictures from their home computer to a web-based gallery, from where they can be shared with friends and family. Unlike Flickr or Picasa, Kodak EasyShare also offers the ability to purchase prints and novelty items such as mugs and keyrings featuring uploaded photos. However the supplied software has a reputation for being slow and awkward to use, and uploading to the gallery site can be tricky and unreliable. It is also not made clear exactly how much storage space is available to users.

Panasonic has also got into the photo-sharing business with its MyPlace site. After registering for an account, users can upload images with a maximum file size of 5MB. MyPlace isn't an album sharing service like Flickr or Picasa though; instead images are tagged to a specific location on a map, with a brief description and search keywords.

Images can also be directly linked by URL, or posted on Facebook. Photos uploaded by other users can be viewed by clicking on a map or by searching for a specific keyword, and users can also vote for particular photos, with the highest voted images being awarded the honour of being the photo of the week. There is also a running competition with some good prizes. It's an interesting site with a lot of very good photos, but perhaps not the best choice for sharing with friends and family.
