Some things feel naturally comfortable in the hands, and the Sherpa 435 from Velbon is one of them. Finished in matt black, this tripod is well made and easy to use. Topped with a PHD-41Q head, the 435 has very smooth pan and tilt movement allowing precise shot composition. The head can be reversed for macro shots, and for ultra low angle, you can remove the lower part of the main column and use the low angle option for the legs offering a camera height of about 24cm.

The head has a couple of excellent features. It is very well stocked with level indicators, three of them in fact. And it has a uniquely shaped construction to alter the centre of gravity, allowing much more balanced and therefore smoother control.

The legs themselves are a sturdy, aluminium affair made from three sections. The lever locks hold everything in place very nicely, resulting in a very stable bit of kit. For maximum versatility, each leg has three individual options for low angle use: full, semi, and low angle positions. Also, the addition of spring loaded lugs for the angle options on the legs was welcome indeed.

I simply can't fault this tripod, it is a practical, well made bit of kit. Easy to use, stable and durable. A good all rounder that gets my vote.
