Lets start the ball rolling with one of Slik's Pro series, the 330DX. The first thing that struck me was the weight, or lack of it more to the point. Weighing in at a mere 1.67kgs puts this as one of the lightest tripods for its size and capabilities to my reckoning. The secret is in the construction materials for the legs, Slik's exclusive alloy AMT: Aluminium, Magnesium, and Titanium for noticeably more strength, even when all three leg sections are extended.

As an added extra, the legs themselves each have a comfortable foam pad, especially nice in cold weather! For use on uneven ground the angle of the legs can be individually adjusted up to three levels to allow a wider base.

The Pro 330DX comes complete with a SH-705E head. This all-metal 3-way pan head is sturdy and smooth to operate and can be easily inter-changed with other Slik heads. The gearless center column utilises a friction collar to allow slow movement under load and can also be reversed for low angle or macro shots.

There is only one minor let down, the lack of level indication on either the head or the base. For a small, lightweight tripod aimed at the amateurs and pros alike I'm little surprised at this oversight. But on the whole an excellent choice, well recommended.
