Here's my usual detail test shot of the West Window of Exeter Cathedral, for you to compare with other cameras. See below for a full res crop, or click to see the whole picture.

The level of detail near the centre of the frame is very good for an 8MP camera.

The Canon lens produces very little wide-angle distortion.

The centre of the frame is nice and sharp, with good detail.

There is some blurring and chromatic aberration at the edges of the frame.
