Side-stepping the normal conventions in camera bag design, this slick, modern container has proved to be exceptionally popular. Like all of the Crumpler range, the Photo is beautifully crafted, very strong, and very durable. It’s available in six different sizes and a variety of colour combinations, dull black/steel grey, grey black/mustard, dark red/silver, and warm grey/grey black.

The Photo is a very striking bag, especially with some of its brighter colour schemes. But then of course, the importance of looks in a camera bag will depend on the user. I would say there is a healthy slice of potential owners that would consider such modern advertising and youthful imagery totally unnecessary. A quick visit to the Crumpler website should be demonstration enough for the point I’m trying to make.

Straight away the build quality shines through. Made from Crumpler’s own 1000d Chicken Tex Supreme fabric on the outside and waterproof ripstop on the inside, the Photo offers awesome protection from the elements and the odd knock or bump. Thoroughly padded all round, the inside offers good versatility for layout, but I was a little disappointed with the amount of internal space available considering its external size. It’s got room for a medium-sized 14in laptop, but only provides space for one SLR body, a couple of lenses and a flash.

Among the various features, it boasts a ‘Shirt Lifter’ front organiser, with four zipped mesh pockets, a couple of Velcro fastened pockets, and several smaller pockets for bits and pieces. A slightly strange feature is the fully removable camera pouch, (if for some reason you need to use the bag for something else, say helping with the weekly shop, or doing a quick paper round.)

Verdict
I was a little disappointed with the external size/internal space ratio, but overall an excellent bag, high quality, versatile, with good looks to boot.
