PowerShot S90

The most interesting new model is the S90, a welcome return for a popular series of advanced compact cameras that has been dormant since the PowerShot S80 in 2004.

The S90 contains essentially the same internal components and has most of the same features as the new G11, but in a much more compact and portable form. It measures 100.0 x 58.4 x 30.9 mm and weighs 175g minus battery, but includes a super-fast f/2.0-4.9 3.8x zoom lens equivalent to 28-105mm, a large1/1.7-inch 10-megapixel CCD sensor and a 3.0-inch 461k fixed monitor.

The camera has a number of innovative features including a unique rotary control around the lens barrel that can be set to control any one of a number of camera functions including focusing, ISO setting, white balance, exposure compensation or zoom.

The pop-up flash is powered, popping up when the camera is switched on and back down again when it is switched off, although unlike the SX200 IS it doesn't pop up if flash is set to forced off.

The PowerShot S90 will be hitting the shops from early October priced at a substantial £449. It is, of course, only available in black. It'll be interesting to compare the S90 with the Panasonic LX3, a camera with a similar mission and a not-too-dissimilar specification.

When is canon going to upgrade on SX200 ???

If canon can include wide angle (27 or 28) setting in new SX120 then it will become a great camera.

I currently have a lumix fz28. Though I like it a lot I wouldn't mind switching to canon sx20 if it can beat fz 38. after all it is a CANON!
