Ricoh Unveils 3rd Generation GR Digital Comments

As a owner of a second hand GR1 (currently in for repair) I was looking forward to this. However the price is out of my range by quite a degree. Not that I'm a SLR fan (only because I want a pocket sized camera) but I couldn't ignore that I could get one for less money than this! I don't feel I'm being given any options from the camera companies for a simple, well designed, manual control camera that doesn't cost a fortune! (Well apart from some Cannon Powershots which I would be interested in if they improved the wideangle options, 28mm should be the bare minimum, if not 25mm)

Don't forget the GX range in the list of great cameras Ricoh has produced. I still miss my GX100 that I replaced with a Panny LX3 when it was stolen.

I know this will be an amazing camera, but that price is a major turn off. The Oly Pen with it's proper sensor suddenly seems more reasonable.

I have owned both an R7 and an R8. I found the build quality to be terrible, both cameras failed and were replaced twice. Having said that, the image quality was superb, much better than my current (TR recommended) Panasonic. Do the later Ricoh cameras still have the same dodgy build quality? I'd need to be seriously convinced before buying a Ricoh again.

My father in law owns the GX200 and yes I think it is a great camera, let down abit on the image quality front though. I think it hindsight I should of bought an 2nd hand gx100. I have the same feeling about the Oly Pen as well but both are out of my range.

Wildkard - I can only speak for the GR and GX range but they are very well put together. The reason my GRI is in repair is because I dropped (then kicked) it across a hard wooden floor in a rock club while merry! ;)

I also owned an R7 last year which had to be replaced twice due to build quality issues. The actual images were but after going through two failed cameras in two weeks I gave up and went for the slightly less amazing but reliable Canon 860 instead. Here's hoping newer models sort this out too!

I loved the user interface and the build of my Ricoh GR II
but this photography stuff is about IMAGE QUALITY and Ricoh has not delivered.

If Ricoh would put a bigger better sensor (everyone else is) in one of these bodies
I'd sell my DSLRS and the rest of the stuff and buy two!

RICOH please give us a GX300 with a fast little zoom and an advanced larger sensor.
