You may think television would be the first place 3D would infiltrate our lives but while there has been much movement in this sector it appears digital cameras are going to beat them to it...

Fujifilm has announced 'FinePix Real 3D W1' which it claims will be the World's first compact to be able to shoot both stills and video in three dimensions. Certainly it's a new one on us.

How the FinePix Real 3D W1 works is via dual CCD sensors which capture images/frames for both the left and right eyes and then syncs them into a single image or video using its proprietary 'Real Photo Processor 3D' chip. Impressively, Fujifilm says the recorded snaps and video can be viewed on the camera's 2.8in rear display without need for 3D specs. If you're feeling adventurous the 3D mode can even be customised to adjust its focal length for difference scenes.

Away from the 3D, the W1 is also perfectly happy in 2D taking up to 10MP stills and sporting a 3x optical zoom and 1600 ISO along with the usual array of pre-set shooting modes. For a first gen product it is portable too at just 123 x 68 x 25mm and weighing in at 260g. The Fujifilm FinePix Real 3D W1 goes on sale in September for approximately £570.

So that's three brand spanking new premium compact cameras with very different purposes about to hit the market. Would you go for the Ricoh GR Digital III, Olympus PEN E-P1 or be tempted by the world of 3D...?
