Kodak Announces New 24x Zoom Bridge Camera

Just in time for the big CES electronics show in America, Kodak has announced four new digital cameras, including three new M-series mid-range compacts and an interesting new bridge camera featuring a 24x zoom wide-angle lens.

Technical details are a bit scant at the moment, but the 12-megapixel Z980 is equipped with a 24x zoom Schneider-Kreuznach Variogon lens with optical image stabilisation and a wide-angle end equivalent to 26mm, a three-inch LCD monitor and a hot shoe for an external flashgun. Features include HD video recording capability, Smart Capture automatic mode and a detachable vertical grip with a secondary shutter release for portrait-format shots. It's a fair bet that it probably also has a good range of manual exposure and metering options. Pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed, but it is described in the press release as "affordable". However a Bugatti Veyron is affordable if you have a million quid sitting around, so that really doesn't ell us much.

Also announced are three new M-series cameras. The leader of the pack is the 10-megapixel M380, featuring a 5x zoom lens and a 2.7-inch monitor. It is described as "sleek and powerful", and will be available in black, red or teal.

It is joined by the M340, which also has a 10MP sensor and 2.7-inch monitor, but has a smaller 3x zoom lens. It will be available in blue, blue-green, silver, and red. Completing the trio is the M320, a 9-megapixel camera with a 2.7-inch monitor and a 3x zoom lens, available in black, silver, red and blue.
