Hopefully this will force down the price of the D700, I'm saving up for one. :-)

Did you just happen to have an eagle handy to tether to a bird bather? Or did you just notice it in shot once you got home...

Big leap to me vs. current 5D. Just had a look at the following link http://www.canon-europe.com/thefutureofphotography/ and felt that canon's story around HD capabilities rather credible. Thim Hetherington (world press photo winner 2007) has some interesting quotes about video delivering a seemless experience for photo journalists.

The ensuing price war is certainly going to be interesting. I'm in the market for a full-frame DSLR myself - just waiting for the price to fall a little more. The D700 is already nudging the £1600 mark and for what is essentially a D3 in a smaller body, that's pretty good. Obviously, the 5D Mark II should drop in price as more and more stock becomes available, but it's going to make the decision of which one to go for that much harder. For me, the pixel count isn't everything - more important is the quality of the glass you attach to the body (and the video option does have appeal too). As a previous 1D Mark II owner, I know that Canon make some great lenses, so I'm a little unsure how Nikon glass directly compares (they do seem a little more expensive, though). Nearer the time of purchase I'll probably pop down to my local store and test some out...
As for the eagle, Canon had a variety of birds of prey on show at their head office. This one loved the camera...

I can't wait to see a few independent reviews of this, especially here.
The pricing is a bit of a shocker though - it is cheaper to fly to the US, buy one, and fly straight back!

....and that is exactly what I will be doing in November with my 'extra' $1500. Flight to Newark, taxi to B&H, lunch, sightseeing, dinner, taxi to Newark, back home. And with the remaining money I will get a Mack warranty, a grip and keep the rest. Thank you Canon for making my camera have the biggest carbon footprint of any consumer gadget!
