"The big news is the announcement of the EOS 50D, the long-awaited replacement for the popular but aging EOS 5D full-frame professional DSLR."
erm...to say the 50d will replace the 5d is probably very wrong, the 5d is the pro Full Frame and the 50d (which will probably replace the 40d) is crop frame (Canon 1.6).
the 5d is rumoured to be replaced with the 5d2 which would need to rival the Nikon D700

That SX110IS looks pretty nice. Shame it's not wide angle though.

5D replacement? No, it isn't. It's a well overpriced upgrade to the 40D. Your well off the mark there TR. Research?

D'oh, that's what I get for rushing, and not reading the spec sheet properly. Thanks for pointing out the mistake, I've ammended the article accordingly.

@Cliff - and you get 'Annonces' in the title which I've just spotted ;) Will fix it for you :)

Pity that A-series cameras have lost manual modes... I'm still hoping for S5 IS replacement.

one more this week and it's the stocks in Ascot high street for you! :o)
The pricing on the 50D was a bit of a surprise, about £350 more than I expected....which probably bodes badly for all of us lot waiting for the 5D MK2.

Put it down to old age and decrepitude. I think I need to format my brain and re-install the OS.

Looks as if the A720 replacement has lost its optical viewfinder. Shame!
Also, I had not realised that this was also an English Language SATS! Stick with it, Cliff! We can translate - it's the content that COUNTS (Oh, that's Maths, isn't it?)!

The A2000 got rid of the 2 features that made the A720 such an appealing camera: the manual controls and the optical view finder.
It does not even include wide angle lens! It seems like Canon cannot create a long zoom compact camera with wide angle lens. Plus, it does not even onclude Canon's new DIGIC 4 processor (included in the also new EOS 50D)!!!!
I have been waiting for the A720 update for several months and I am extremely disappointed.
I would consider the SX110 if it was smaller and if it had an optical view finder. But also, -again- not even wide angle lens. Time to look at other camera companies.

This is just basically a copy of the Pentax K20D/Samsung GX20 but at twice the price... However, the 50D lacks the internal IS and proper weather seals (ie K20D/GX20 can actually be used in the rain). Likely it will be faster in certain areas (6.3fps, better live view, etc) but for most users it lags behind.
IQ is for many the decider. SamPen left much to the user - a little noise but also lots of detail and the user to decide how far, if atall, to reduce it. Other manufacturers go the NR route and smear away detail without giving the user the choice. I like having the choice.
I got bored with Canon's tiny updates and went from a Canon 20D to a Samsung GX20 some months ago. I have no regrets in doing that.
I await with interest the reviews which will inevitably contrast it with the Pentax K20D. Might give Pentax a sales boost - yer what!! all that at half the price!! :))

It uses an APS-C CMOS sensor and states it's available with the EF-S lens so it's not the long awaited successor to the Canon 5D at all since it isn't full frame. It's more like the upgrade the 40D should've been though the large jump in overall spec is quite surprising though Canon are certainly playing catch up compared to Nikon.
