With the big Photokina camera show in Cologne next month, the new camera launch season is upon us, so expect a lot of news updates over the next couple of weeks, including a report from the show.

Casio has announced three new ultra-compact cameras this week, adding new high-spec models to its Exilim EX-Z range. No prices or launch dates have been announced yet, but they’ll probably be hitting the shops within a few weeks.

EX-Z250 and EXZ300
The EX-Z250 and EXZ300 are 9.1 and 10.1 megapixel models that share a number of features with the recent EX-Z200, including the 4x optical zoom lens with 28mm wide angle, 3-inch 230k monitor screens and more importantly the sensor-shift image stabilization system.

As well as this, these two new models have several other new features including a selection of new Best Shot modes and a high definition movie recording function, which allows movies with an image size of 1280 by 720 pixels to be recorded. They also feature the H.264 video standard, which records movies in highly compressed video files ideal for online streaming sites such as YouTube.

EX-Z85
As well as the two new triple-digit cameras Casio is also launching the EX-Z85, and upgrade of the tiny 8.1-megapixel EX-Z80, one of the smallest ultra-compacts ever.

The EX-Z85 has a 9.1-megapixel sensor, but is otherwise pretty much identical to the Z80, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing. It features a 3x optical zoom lens, 2.6-inch widescreen monitor, face recognition and auto-shutter functions, and is available in a wide range of exciting colours.
