Olympus has announced a new semi-pro digital SLR to succeed its popular and highly-rated E-510. Unsurprisingly named the E-520, the new model ticks all the right boxes with arrange of features that match the best of the competition, including body-integral sensor-shift image stabilisation, live monitor with autofocus and a self-cleaning sensor.

The E-520 is an incremental upgrade on the E-510, and features the same 10.0-megapixel Four-Thirds sensor and a virtually identical body. It does have slightly improved performance though, with a maximum frame rate of 3.5fps, with a buffer large enough for up to eight image in RAW mode. The live view mode has also been enhanced, with aperture depth-of-field preview, exposure adjustment preview and also previews of the face detection and Shadow Adjustment Technology. This is a new feature for the E-520, which enhances the apparent dynamic range by brightening shadow areas. The LCD monitor itself has also been improved, and is now 2.7 inches with a 176-degree viewing angle.

The E-520 is available from June 2008 at the following prices:
Olympus E-520 body only - £479.99
Olympus E-520 with ED 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 lens - £529.99
Olympus E-520 with ED 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 and ED 40-150mm 1:4.0-5.6 lenses - £629.99
Olympus E-520 with ED 14-42mm 1:3.5-5.6 and ED 70-300mm 1:4.0-5.6 lenses - £759.99
