As well as the new D60 DSLR, Nikon has also announced four new models in its prestige ultra-compact Coolpix S (Style) series, bringing the total in the range up to 12 models, although one or two of the older models, such as the S500, may be discontinued soon.

Coolpix S210
The lowest spec new model is the Coolpix S210, an ultra-slim 8.0-megapixel camera measuring just 90 x 55.5 x 18 mm and weighing in at only 100g. Despite its diminutive size it sports a 3x zoom Nikkor lens (equivalent to 38-114mm), 2.5-inch 230k LCD monitor, electronic image stabilisation and a maximum sensitivity of 2000 ISO. The body, like all of the S-series models, is all aluminium, and it comes in a wide range of colours, including Bright Silver, Urban Black, Pink, Blue, Purple, or Red, although some colours may not be available in all territories.

The Coolpix S210 will be in the shops in March, with a recommended price of £179.99, although that will most likely be greatly reduced by retailers.

Coolpix S550
Next up in the specification rankings is the Coolpix S550, a 10.0-megapixel model with a 5x zoom lens equivalent to 36-180mm. Although no quite as skinny as the S210 it is still comfortably in the ultra-compact category, measuring 90 x 53.5 x 22 mm and weighing 120g. Like its smaller sibling the S550 also features a 2.5-inch 230k monitor, electronic image stabilisation and 2000 ISO maximum sensitivity.

The Coolpix S550 will go on sale in March with a list price of £199.99.

Coolpix S600
Topping out the list of new models is the impressive-looking Coolpix S600. This is another 10-megapixel model, but this time featuring a 4x wide-angle zoom lens equivalent to 28-112mm, with Nikon's proven optical image stabilisation system. Measuring 88.5 x 53 x 22.5 mm and weighing 130g it is one of the smallest cameras on the market to feature this technology.

Other features include 3200 ISO maximum sensitivity, a large 2.7-inch 230k monitor and a new "Active Child" scene mode that can track a moving subject for faster and more accurate shooting. The S600 will be available from April with a list price of £249.99.

Coolpix S520
The fourth new model in the series is the S520, which is a variant of the existing S510 8-megapixel compact, but manufactured exclusively for Dixons. It is an advanced model featuring a 3x zoom lens with optical image stabilisation, 2000 ISO maximum sensitivity and a 2.5-inch monitor. It is a very compact model, measuring 94 x 53 x 22.5 mm and weighing 115g.

The S520 will be available from February, but at this time the price is known only to Dixons.
