Another superzoom camera announced for PMA is an update of the successful FinePix S8000fd. Named the FinePix S8100fd, the new model adds an extra two megapixels, for a total of ten on its 1/2.3-inch CCD sensor. It keeps the big f2.8-4.5, 27-486mm-equivalent 18x zoom lens.
Other than the extra resolution the specification and features are very similar to the previous model, including moving-sensor image stabilisation, maximum 6400 ISO (at 5MP) and a 2.5-inch 230k LCD monitor. New features for the updated model include Zoom Bracketing and Instant Zoom, although since both of these features use digital zoom there may be image quality issues. We'll have to wait until we can get a review sample to find out.
The FinePix S8100fd will be available from March 2008, but the price has yet to be confirmed.
