Casio has just announced the launch of two new models in its successful Exilim range of ultra-compact digital cameras, including a replacement for of one of my favourite models of the last twelve months, the ultra-slinky Exilim EX-S770. It is superseded in the Exilim line-up by the new EX-S880, which features an 8.1-megapixel sensor, 3x zoom lens, wide-view, wide-screen 2.8-in monitor screen and face-detection AF. Like most of the Exilim range it has Anti-Shake DSP which counteracts camera shake by increasing the ISO setting for faster shutter speeds. It also features a very fast 4 FPS continuous shooting mode, although this only works in 2.0MP resolution. The S880 will be available in silver, black or red, with a recommended retail price of £249.99.

The new Exilim EX-Z77 meanwhile replaces the EX-Z75 which I only reviewed just a couple of weeks ago. Like the existing model the new one features a 7.2-megapixel CCD, 3x zoom lens, 2.6-in wide-screen monitor and an easy-to-use on-screen menu system. It also has a high-speed continuous mode, capable of five frames a second in 2.0MP mode, and also has face detection technology. It will be available in five colours: silver, black, red, blue and pink, and the RRP is £149.99.

The unique selling point for both new models is the inclusion of a special Best Shot video mode which shoots video clips ready-formatted for uploading to the popular YouTube video sharing website, using H.264 compression technology to ensure maximum quality. The cameras also come supplied with software for uploading video clips to the site, making it easier than ever to embarrass yourself, your friends and your family in front of the entire world.
