Casio Digicam Races Past 10MP

The megapixel race is starting to get a little silly. Past about four megapixels other factors become far more important to image quality, but that hasn’t stopped Casio from pushing the boat out even further.

The newly announced EX-Z1000 sees the slim line digital camera not reach an incredible 10.1 megapixels, a jump for the already massive 8.1MP seen in its Z850. Quite why anyone needs 8MB+ sizes for their each of their holiday snaps is rather beyond me but if this floats your boat you’ll be in heaven about now.

To be fair however, the EX-Z1000 is no one trick pony. It also features a huge ISO 3200 rating, 2.8in 230k LCD with 1200 cd/m2 brightness, 3x optical zoom, anti-shake DSP and compact dimension of 92 x 58.4 x 22.4mm and weighs just 139. Thankfully SD memory cards are the order of the day here since they are about the only format with capacities large enough to hold more than about 30 shots at 10.MP and there are 37 shooting modes.

Start up takes just 1.3 seconds with a 0.002 second shutter release lag time and high speed image scroll back of 100 images in only 10 seconds. We don’t know the pricing or release date yet but someone should tell Casio ‘megapixels’ is one word before it is too late…
