Sony's Super Skinny 7.2MP Cyber-shot

Sony cameras are like when England won an Olympic gold medal at the curling. You understand the dedication behind such an achievement, you want to get excited, and yet, somehow, you just can’t.

The Cyber-shot T30 is a perfect case in point: slim line (19mm thick), lightweight (132g), 7.2MP, 3in LCD, Carl Zeiss lens, anti-shake technology (dubbed ‘Super Steady Shot’) and a high sensitivity ISO setting to boost picture quality in low light conditions. The problem – as always – it only takes a brand of Memory Stick.

In this case the undersized, over priced flash memory of choice is Memory Stick Duo so let’s do a quick comparison. 7.2 megapixel photographs are going to eat up a lot of space so a 1GB card is going to be the minimum you’ll want. A Viking 1GB SD card will set you back £19.99 on Amazon, a 512MB Sony branded Memory Stick Duo is £24.59. If someone can tell me a genuine reason why Sony needs its own specific flash memory format I’ll buy that person a beer (unless they're under 18 in which case I’ll only cough up for tequila).

The T30 will go on sale in May for $500 and right now that flippin’ Memory Stick Duo is the only thing stopping me from buying one.
