Epson has launched a new film scanner – the Perfection 2580. This is the first scanner to include an Auto Film Loader for digitising 35mm film. This enables filmstrips to be scanned with just one click. This should appeal to the amateur photographer who works with film as well as digital images.

The scanner offer a high maximum scanning resolution of 2,400 x 4,800dpi; good enough to create A3 prints from 35mm film. The Auto Loader can recognise positive and negative film, which is then automatically processed by the scanner. It also offers dust removal features for restoring old and faded photos.

A multi photo feed for easy 10 x 15in scans is also available. Connectivity is via USB 2.0 and the bundled software includes ArcSoft PhotoImpression 5 and ABBYY FineReader 5 Sprint OCR software.

The scanner is available now and has an RRP of £99.99. More details can be found at www.epson.co.uk.
