Samsung has introduced the - a camera phone that uses a 3 million pixel CMOS sensor. This means that the phone exceeds the resolution of many dedicated digital cameras, let alone those of current camera phones, most of which use a CMOS sensor of just over 300,000 pixels.

Before you get too excited however, we should mention that the new model is aimed at the Korean market and isn’t going to be released in Europe. However, it does give a taster of what we can expect in the future.

Design wise the phone is something of an oddity. The SPH-2300 looks like a conventional digital camera on one side and a phone on the other. It sports an integrated flash and a mini-SD card slot.

Samsung is not the first to release a phone with a 3 million pixel camera with that honour going to Casio. However, the Samsung is the first to release one featuring a optical zoom.
