What is the Dell B1260dn?

Simple mono laser printers are the mainstay of the home and small office, when colour print isn’t required. The Dell B1260dn costs around £100, oddly cheaper at some other sites than Dell’s own, and for that you get a personal printer with duplex print, though no wireless connection.

Dell B1260dn – Design and Features

As with most Dell machines, the B1260dn is all black, but unlike most others, it has pleasantly rounded lines, looking uncannily like the Samsung ML-2955DW. The top cover has a large, fold-forward output tray.

To the right of this is a simple control panel, with buttons for power, job cancel, info pages and eco mode. The eco mode button automatically switches in features such as duplex and toner save modes with one press.

At the bottom of the front panel is a 250-sheet paper tray and just above this, a single sheet, multipurpose slot sits behind a flip-down panel. At the back are USB and 10/100 Ethernet sockets, the two connections available.

Even though there’s no wireless facility on this machine, it’s compatible with both Airprint and Google Cloud Print, assuming it’s connected to a network with Internet access.

The single-piece drum and toner cartridge is available in two capacities, 1,500 and 2,500 pages. The top front of the case hinges down and the cartridge slides in horizontally, so maintenance is never going to take more than a few seconds.

The driver provides watermarks, overlays and eco facilities. These include duplex print, toner-save and multiple pages per sheet. Handily, It also displays estimates for the savings you make on CO2, energy and paper, by switching in various combinations of the eco functions.
