If you’re flush with cash but still keen for a deal, we’ve found a cracking bargain on a hi-tech LG OLED TV.
Currys is selling the LG OLED55B7V 55-inch Smart 4K Ultra HD OLED TV for the seemingly lofty price of £1,999. However, this price is actually £1,000 less than the usual R.R.P of £2,999 – saving you around 33%.
It seems that most retailers are still selling this TV for prices above £2,000 – including Argos and Weybridge Audio. However, this price has been matched by a select few retailers, perhaps the most notable of which is John Lewis.
This is undoubtedly one of the best televisions on the market, partly because it features a 55-inch OLED display. OLED screens have pixels that emit their own light, which means they don’t work like conventional LED-backlit LCD TVs. They’re much more power efficient and can display a wider range of both colours and brightness/darkness.
But this TV is brilliant in other ways too; it offers Ultra HD 4K resolution images and supports High Dynamic Range (HDR) content. That’s increasingly useful, giving the growing roster of 4K HDR content available from providers like Netflix and Amazon Video.
This TV runs on LG’s own custom-built webOS software, which is capable of running loads of on-demand apps like BBC iPlayer, ITV Player, All 4, My5, Now TV, Amazon Video, Netflix and YouTube. It’s also got four HDMI ports, three USB ports, an optical port, and a headphone jack.
We gave the LG OLED55B7 a very high 4.5/5 score, praising the set’s unrivalled blacks and contrast, the improved shadow detailing, the vibrant yet accurate colours, and the supremely low input lag.
Here’s our verdict, written in April 2017 at a review price of £3,000: “Improving upon LG’s already outstanding 2016 OLEDs, the OLED55B7 is one of the best TVs you can buy this year.”
