At a stroke AMD has rejigged its desktop processor range with dual core X2 models at the top of the range which go down to the X2 3800+ at £235, while the fastest, most expensive single core model is the Athlon 64 4000+ at £250. From a technical point of view the FX-60 is an X2 4800+ with an extra 200MHz. It uses the same 90nm fabrication process, runs on the same 1.35V Core Voltage and has 1MB of L2 cache for each core. The real surprise is that the single core FX-57 has a TDP of 104W while the FX-60 only pumps out a maximum of 110W.

This makes an upgrade to FX-60 just about as simple as it could be. Any motherboard and cooler that works with FX-57 is sure to work with FX-60.
