As if Intel's current range of CPUs wasn't already huge enough, the company has gone ahead and added to it by a further three chips. There's nothing particularly exciting, so without further ado here's how the new parts stack up.

Core 2 Quad Q8200
  • 2.33GHz clock speed
  • 4MB L2 cache
  • 1333MHz FSB
  • 45nm
  • $224 (~£125) per 1,000 units
Core 2 Duo E5200
  • 2.5GHz clock speed
  • 2MB L2 cache
  • 800MHz FSB
  • 45nm
  • $84 (~£47) per 1,000 units
Celeron D 450
  • 2.2GHz clock speed
  • 512KB L2 cache
  • 800MHz FSB
  • 65nm
  • $53 (~£30) per 1,000 units
This latest low-end quad-core addition to Intel's product range still doesn't reach the low pricing hit by AMD, after its recent price cuts, which hasn't happened for a while. At the low end, where cost is arguably of more significance than performance, though, Intel should still have the advantage.

With Nehalem Core i7 just around the corner, though, most of us will probably be holding off buying a current generation Intel chip just now.

I'm going to hazard a guess that the D 450 doesn't have 512MB of L2 Cache... ;)

lol - probably not.

Looks like the CPU range is getting refreshed ready for Nehalem at the end of the year.

Good guess, forgot to change that part of the copy/paste :)

I think it's safe to say Intel is using up some of the silicon it has invested in Penryn in preparat... more
