Nehalem Launching Before Year's End

Following the release of details of its Nehalem architecture recently, some Intel partner's have decided to add their contribution, according to DigiTimes. Nothing revolutionary, but we know have an idea of the release schedule, codenames and clock speeds of three Nehalem-based CPUs set to launch before the year is out.


Those processors' codenames are the XE, P1 and MS3 relating to CPUs with clock speeds of 3.2GHz, 2.93GHz and 2.66GHz respectively. All three have TDPs of 130W, sport 8MB L3 caches and are Simultaneous Multi-Threading (SMT) capable. SMT, for those not familiar with it, is Intel's latest take on what was called Hyper-threading on the Pentium 4 and refers to the chips ability to process more than one thread simultaneously on each core. X58, the next desktop chipset, will unsurprisingly also launch at the same time.

In line with these plans, July will see the phasing out of last generation chips such as the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 and 6800 - still built on the older 65nm process. In Q1 of 2009 the Q9550 and Q9650 will also be phased out.

Further there are reports that production of the dual-core Atom 330 has been postponed until September to allow Intel to make up for shortages in the supply of the single-core Atom 230.

All of this is unconfirmed by Intel of course, but there's no real reason to doubt DigiTimes' sources.

Any chance this will be launched under the inevitable "Core 3" brand?

I think TDW is too high 130 Watts ok I know more power consumed equals to better performance. They have to think in the enviorment and all the people that leave it's computer ... more
