When Intel has announced its plans to axe single core Celerons earlier this year, details about the dual core replacements were understandably sketchy. Luckily for those interested, more details have now emerged, along with some more information about next years 45nm quad core offerings, if information from DigiTimes' sources is to be believed.

Celerons first, then, the 20th of January will see the launch of the E1200, a 1.6GHz chip with 512KB of level 2 cache running on an 800MHz front-side bus. Pricing for this is set to be $53 (per 1,000-unit bundle) which is almost exactly the current asking price for a single core, 1.6GHz Celeron - not bad. Other chips will follow soon after, although no specific data is available.

On the Penryn front, the same date in January will also see three new quad core chips launching, the 2.5GHz Q9300, 2.66GHz Q9450 and 2.83GHz Q9550, the former coming with 6MB of level 2 cache and the latter two with 12MB and all running on a 1333MHz FSB. 1000-unit pricing is $266, $316 and $530 respectively, which will almost certainly make the Q9300 the chip of choice for next year. So, is anyone's New Year's resolution to make the jump to quad core?
