In its tests of Corsair's 1,333MHz DDR3 modules our sister publication Bit-Tech concluded that the slight speed increases (at that time) over DDR2 just weren't worth the reduction in latency required to achieve them, recommending that people wait until the technology matured, the speeds increased and the timings improved. Since that test OCZ, among others, has released a set of 1,600Mhz modules and started to make the jump to the new format worthwhile.

With today's announcement, OCZ has gone one better and launched what it claims are the worlds first production 1,800MHz DDR3 modules. Not only are they fast, but these modules are rated at tight CAS-8 timings and, if we do the maths, offer just a tad over 16GB of memory bandwidth - more than enough for the most intensive user. No word is yet available on when the 1GB modules and 2GB 'dual-channel' kits will be available, or how much they will cost. However, going by current DDR3 pricing, expect to require permission from your bank manager to actually afford them.
