Although multi-core technology is clearly paramount to Intel’s future vision, there’s another area that seems to be equally important – mobility. With this in mind, Intel also held a Pre-IDF briefing covering mobile lifestyle.

Any Time, Any Place, Any Network – that was the vision that Alan Crouch (Director & General Manager - Communications Technology Labs) was pushing and there’s no doubt that it’s a vision that any mobile user would welcome.

Crouch reiterated Intel’s idea that the end user should drive the development of products, and made it clear that mobile devices have evolved due to the user’s need and desire for more functionality on the move.

As the slide above shows there are two driving forces in the mobile arena – people want to carry their lives with them and they also want to be connected wherever they may be. Crouch even hinted at the theory that handheld devices have actually evolved the human race as we know it, with children far more dextrous with their thumbs than their parents, due to excessive use of the thumb with mobile phones and game controllers.
