Laughed off around the world and given several dubious glances from TR central, news that Apple was about to forge a partnership with Intel seemed unlikely at best. Well, word is the feline obsessed, white fetishist is actually going confirm the deal when the US wakes up later today.

The occasion will be the Apple World Wide Developer Conference (which is a pretty darn perfect time to announce any kind of technology switch if you ask me?). Apple CEO Steve Jobs will do the talking and Intel CEO Paul Otellini is rumoured to be ready to join him for some mutual back slapping.

The surprising (yet logical) move will see an end to 10 years of Apple using PowerPC architecture and deal yet another body blow to IBM (which makes the processors for G5s) after the completion of the Lenovo deal showed how badly it mishandled inventing the PC…

Motorola will not be a happy bunny either, since its chips have been at the core (sorry) of Apple systems since the debut of the 68000 and it still supplies G4 processors for Apple’s notebooks and budget machines.

Intriguingly, there is now talk that AMD will get a look into the white world as well, but this is just getting too reasonable for words. Cheaper, faster Macs a reality? All we need now are PC ports of Tiger and we’ll all be smiling happily in a land of Flying Pigs.

Update
Yup, it's official! We await any news of AMD though...
