Corsair Moves Into Flash Memory

Corsair, one of the biggest names in PC memory, has announced its entry into the flash memory market.

With the rapid adoption of devices such as digital cameras this is a hugely expanding market so its move makes a lot of sense. To start off, it has released a USB 2.0 thumb drive in 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, and 1GB capacities. The drive features a water resistant rubber casing to ensure durability. Corsair claims a transfer rate of 19MB/sec sustained read speeds.

It also offers a line of SD cards, at capacities between 128Mb and 1GB, rated at 40-speed, with sustained read speeds of six MB/s.

Compact Flash products ranging from 128MB to 4GB in capacity are expected soon. These are rated at the same 40x (6MB/s read and 5MBs write) speeds as the Secure Digital family of products.

According to Eric Ackerson, Corsair Product Manager, “Already being the dominant leader in performance memory for PCs, our debut into the flash market is a natural expansion for Corsair. Our new USB and SD products are phenomenally fast.”

Corsair claims that like its PC memory, its flash products have been subjected to extremely rigorous testing to ensure 100 per cent compatibility, reliability and performance. A Lifetime Warranty is standard for all Corsair Compact Flash products
