Sticking with close-ups for now, we move on to leaves in their natural setting with this fantastic outdoor shot from Hugh Thomson of Fife in Scotland. This was one of my favourite entries, mostly because I know how difficult it is to take shots like this.

Another shot picking out individual leaves in their natural surroundings was this simple but extremely attractive composition from another regular entrant, Richard Koizumi of Tokyo, Japan. I like the way the colourful leaves are isolated against the background.

Another way to isolate colours is to mask out the background using Photoshop, which is what Steve Myers of Hull, UK, has done. I don't know if Steve is related to Lee Myers (see above), but if so then talent appears to run in the family.
