Finally we come to our winning photos for this month, although choosing them was no easy task. The first runner up, and winner of a 1GB PNY CompactFlash card and a £25 Photobox voucher, is this outstanding symmetrical monochrome composition of an escalator in a shopping centre in Nottingham, sent in by Jon Speed of Beeston, Nottingham, UK, and not just because that's where I grew up.

Our second runner-up is a teriffic shot from Chris Mole of West Sussex, UK, who was also the winner of the June competition. This month he wins a 1GB PNY CompactFlash card and a £25 Photobox voucher to go with his prize from June, which hopefully he has received by now.

Our winner this month is another competition regular, Partha Pal of West Bengal, India, with this fantastic journalistic shot. Partha describes it in his own words: "This photograph was taken at Burrabazar, one of the busiest area of Kolkata, West Bengal, India. There are lot of amusements in this metropolis but those are not for all. Life is not a bed of roses for the labours in our city. They are low paid groups and life is really a struggle for those."

Congratulations to Jon, Chris and Partha, whose prizes will be on their way shortly, and a big thank-you to all our other entrants. Remember that our October competition is currently open, with the theme of Sport & Recreation, so why not enter and show us what you can do? Please read the rules and submission requirements at the link above first though.
