TomTom Prices iPhone Car Kit

There has been much anticipation about the price of the iPhone TomTom car kit. Now all has been revealed prepare to be disappointed...
In one of the shortest press releases I've ever seen, the company declared: "TomTom announces today that the TomTom car kit for the iPhone will have a recommended retail price of £99.99. The TomTom car kit will be available this October and will be sold separately from the TomTom app. It will be compatible with the iPhone 2G, 3G and 3GS. All further details on the car kit will be made available soon."
Short, but not particularly sweet then. Combine this with the £59.99 price of the app itself and you're looking at a £160 outlay, almost double what you'd pay for an older standalone GO or ONE model. So is this really a smart move when the TomTom iPhone app itself is also a long way from complete? (for example: a lack of speed cameras is currently a big, and basic, omission)
If you do decide you're prepared to pay any price for convergence however, the car kit itself includes a mount, enhanced GPS receiver (hence why the iPhone 2G can play along), integrated speaker, power cables, and mic allowing it to be used as a Bluetooth speaker phone.
So how strong is your sense of self justification...?

Why bother making an app in the first place then? Obviously it can't be too cheap but to price it at par with their standalone products is just senseless.
