Canon PIXMA MX925 - Print Speeds

Canon claims speeds of 15ppm for back print and 10ppm for colour. Our tests returned slower speeds, but they are still healthy for this class of machine. The five-page black text test gave 10ppm in both normal and ‘fast’ modes, so we’re not sure what makes it fast. The 20-page test increased the measured speed to 12.5ppm.
Canon PIXMA MX925 - Trays
The black text and colour graphics test gave 4.8ppm, which is quite slow and the 20-side, duplex, black text document gave 4.1 sides per minute, which is also sluggish, though better than from some other Canon machines. This slow duplex speed was reflected in the 10-side duplex copy test, which took an unimpressive 5:27 to complete.

Photo prints, on the other hand, came through very quickly – 45s in best mode from a PC, 37s in standard mode from a Samsung Galaxy Mini Android phone and a blistering 33s from USB drive.

Canon PIXMA MX925 - Print Quality and Running Costs

Print quality is as good as we've come to expect from Canon printers. Black text dark and crisp, almost laser quality and fast mode is a little lighter, but still very readable – perhaps it should be renamed ink-save. Colour graphics on plain paper are solid and without dither patterns, but are not quite as vibrant as from some other inkjets. Photo prints are very good quality, with rich, deep colours and smooth transitions from shade to shade.

The scanner, which has a top resolution of 2,400 x 4,800ppi, is quiet and quick and renders colours well, with only slight lightening in comparison with originals, making it good enough to scan old legacy photo prints, if required.
Canon PIXMA MX925 - Open

Using XXL black and XL colour cartridge prices gives costs per page of 3.2p for black print and 10.7p for colour, both including 0.7p for paper. The black page cost is average for an inkjet all in one, but the colour cost is, for example, nearly 3p higher than from Canon’s own PIXMA MG2250, a £35 printer.

Verdict

As a premium model, Canon's PIXMA MX925 ticks a lot of boxes. It can print, scan, copy and fax and print direct to CD/DVD media. It has full wireless print support and can copy, as well as print, duplex pages. It can't print from memory cards, though and, despite its extra high capacity black cartridge, is not that cheap to run.
