The Canon IXUS 1100 HS is a stylish and well-made touch-screen compact that offers good point-and-shoot usability, a generous zoom range and a decent, if not quite class-leading, range of shooting features. While touch-screen control remains a nice idea in principle, in practice it does slow overall operation of the camera down quite considerably. That’s a shame because, touch-screen control issues aside, the IXUS 1100 HS is a very competent and stylish camera. Given its fairly high launch price we wouldn’t expect it to hold much appeal beyond those particularly averse to normal physical controls. However, should the street price drop below £300 then it’s likely to find much more mass appeal. Read full review

I'd have to disagree; touchscreen control on cameras remains a rubbish idea in principle as well as in practice. Cameras are not smartphones and require a completely different set of inputs and controls. The only actual benefit of replacing all the buttons with a touchscreen is the slight increase in speed size. As far as I'm concerned this is another case of manufacturers trying to cram in new features to give a neat-sounding USP rather than focusing on image quality and ease of use. Along with the resumption of the megapixel war this is quite bad news for people who like taking photos rather than comparing spec sheets.

I really like the size of this camera and since it takes good quality pictures, I'm considering to buy it. BUT... I've read that this camera makes a constant ticking noise while recording video. Can you guys confirm that?

I really wonder who are the people who review these cameras.do you check the video and zoom?do you check the sound play back?
i raised similar issues with the canon ixus 220 hs which also you highly acclaimed.
i start thinking that you are being bias at trustedreviews as i really don't understand how a camera can cut out conversations when you are filming and zooming and being this expensive and yet you give it 8/10 and other cameras that perform better you give them 6/10?

Touchscreen is big minus for some. However, for me the response was pretty good. It takes a day or two to get used to. The large display sans buttons is awesome. Pictures are crisp and natural, shutter is fast, features are awesome, zoom is plenty. There is sound of motor in video yes. But considering the latest price cut(av. for 180 pounds in India), you can't ask for more. A must buy.

NICE CAMERA - BAD SOUND

The camera is nice looking,stylish and well built.for a 12x zoom you can't get slimmer.
I have been using this for 2 months now and had the camera swapped twice already as when you are recording a video you get a mechanical sound so loud and you can hear it on all of your videos.this is a generic to a lot of compact cameras but this one is so loud that you are no longer focusing on the videos in playback but the sound.
also when zooming in video you get the sound cut off each time you zoom in and out.at first i thought that there was a problem with the camera i had.after getting it replaced 3 times i knew that there was a problem.i have contacted Canon just to hear ( 3 weeks after avoiding to face the real problem) that this is the limitation of the camera.
wow i paid almost £300 for this just to be told return it for a refund as this is the limitation of the camera.i was even asked to use an external microphone or not to use the zoom at all to avoid this issue.can you believe this? This is the kind of answer i will expect from sony but not canon.
how is canon having all these awards? how?
Sorry Canon but a big step up in quality control of your compact cameras is urgently needed.
